The 3rd Forum of Excellent Chinese Young Scholars in Environmental Geography was successfully held in IUE

The 3rd Forum of Excellent Chinese Young Scholar in Environmental Geography (FECYSEG), with the theme of “Environmental Geography and Beautiful China”, was successfully held during October 25-27, 2019 in the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).

Professor Shu Tao, academician of CAS, and more than 100 scholars attended the forum.

The forum began with welcome remarks by Professor Yong-Guan Zhu from IUE and Professor Min Liu from East China Normal University. Professor Min Liu, Professor Dongmei Zhou from the Institute of Soil Science, CAS, and Professor Yunjiang Yu from South China Institute of Environmental Sciences, Ministry of Ecology and Environment, delivered keynote speeches titled "Comprehensive Features of Geography: Challenges and Prospects of Environmental Geography", "Environmental Behaviors and Effects of Nanosilver in Soil", and "Protection and Control of Exposure Risks of Regional Environmental Pollutants”, respectively.

Six sessions were devoted to "Polar and Regional Environment", "Soil and Groundwater Environment", "Atmospheric Environment", "Material Circulation and Environmental Impacts", "Environmental Emissions and Public Health", and "Environmental Spatio-Temporal Data". In each session, scholars introduced their research progresses and major findings. Professor Shu Tao, Min Liu, Yong-Guan Zhu, Yunjiang Yu, Dongmei Zhou, Bo Pan, Dalin Shi, and Shungui Zhou shared their insights on "Career Development and Experience Sharing on Environmental Geography", which captivated the audience with discussions on the achievements and difficulties in their career. In addition, Yan Wu, the associate director of open research and editorial development of Wiley, and Yu Xia, the publisher in environmental science and management of Elsevier shared their experiences in developing high-impact journals and their advices for journal editing.

The annual FECYSEG is an influential platform, which aims at presenting the latest progress and achievements in environmental geography, and promoting the cooperation among young scholars. FECYSEG 2019 was hosted by the Environmental Geography Section of the Geographical Society of China and the CAS Youth Innovation Promotion Association, and was organized by the IUE, CAS and the CAS Key Lab of Urban Environment and Health. The next FECYSEG will be held by East China Normal University in 2020.
